Cincinnati Crime Rate — August 2025

Pleasant Ridge motor vehicle theft ran 138% above its multi-year baseline.

Pleasant Ridge motor vehicle theft is the headline signal for August 2025, the sharpest single-neighborhood move in this briefing. CUF other-larceny had been the citywide lead category coming into this month, but the same bucket appearing across multiple neighborhoods — including Riverside_Sedamsville — made it the recurring backdrop rather than the fresh story. The new lead is Pleasant Ridge, where the motor vehicle theft shift is the most extreme tracked signal this period.

Citywide volume is up 1.7% against the prior 12 months — 14,266 incidents against 14,031. The signal mix is strongly tilted toward increases: 34 spikes against just 4 below-trend signals, with 18 sustained-shift signals and 8 zero-event signals rounding out the 66 total across 50 neighborhoods. Downtown appears twice in the top five, with both robbery and burglary registering fresh spikes.

The breadth here is the story. Fifty neighborhoods registered signals, and the spike-to-drop ratio — 34 to 4 — is unusually one-sided. Whether this reflects a structural shift or a noisy August is something the September data will clarify; the prior 12-month baseline is still close enough to flat that no single-month read is conclusive.
