Seattle Crime Rate — February 2025

Central Area other larceny climbed 39% above its multi-year baseline.

Central Area other larceny is the headline of February 2025 — a fresh spike that stands as the month's most prominent single signal. Northeast robbery had been the citywide lead category coming into this briefing, but that run is one month old and the category itself is the reason for the rotation: other larceny is the new bucket driving the rankings, with Central Area at the top.

Citywide volume is down 0.9% against the prior 12 months — 53,522 incidents against 54,020 — essentially flat. The signal mix tells more of the story: 4 spikes and just 1 drop, alongside 22 sustained-shift signals and 12 zero-event categories across 20 neighborhoods. Rainier Valley other larceny appeared alongside Central Area in the top five, and Northwest theft from vehicle ran below trend — the lone below-baseline move of note this month.

The structural picture for Seattle is stable, but February's concentration of spikes in larceny-type categories across multiple neighborhoods is worth tracking into March. Northeast also registered both a robbery spike and a vandalism spike this period, making it the only neighborhood with two fresh above-trend signals in the top five. If the other larceny pattern holds across Central Area and Rainier Valley next month, it becomes a sustained story rather than a single-month read.
